Amara Resort and Spa Review

In by 4 Comments

Nestled among the famous Red Rocks in Sedona, Arizona is the Amara Resort and Spa. This resort is a Kimpton Hotel, known for their award-winning boutique hotels and restaurants across the United States. The Amara’s stylish decor, stunning location, and impeccable service set it apart from other lodging options in Sedona. Plus, they have a Build Your Own Trail Mix station set up every morning, so they pretty much sold me right there!

On a 5 day road trip around Arizona in January, my boyfriend and I spent a night in Sedona at the Amara Resort and Spa. It was the one splurge night we sprang for after dealing with a few restless sleeps in noisy hostels. We were met with complimentary valet service the second we drove in — something this budget traveler was definitely not used to! Walking into the main lobby, we were smacked in the face with beautiful furnishings and art. And then we found our room…

Our Room

Our eyes popped as we stepped through the door of our Creekside Guest Room. The decor was to die for! There were so many hidden elements that we were still discovering after a few hours of being in the room! From the subtle zebra print stripes on the bed to the quartz dresser knobs, no detail was left undone.

Our room had a balcony situated toward a quiet creek. Cute purple patio furniture was set up outside, overlooking views of more Red Rocks behind the trees and fall-colored leaves.

Our room was also stocked with specialty coffee, drinks, and a load of delicious snacks. A yoga mat was in the wardrobe closet for use in the daily yoga class offered here. In our bathroom was a shower and a large deep tub. It also had soft white bathrobes and luxury hygiene products that anyone would be dumb not to bring home.

We had booked the Apres Ski rate which included two complimentary welcome cocktails. Once we were finished drooling over our room we headed to the bar for our Hot Toddies.

Amara Amenities

The Amara Resort and Spa looks out at Sedona’s Red Rock formations, making it’s gorgeous aesthetic even better. Despite our stay in snowy January, a swim in the heated infinity pool and hot tub were worth the views of those rocks! The courtyard lit up at night with the glows of string lights and bonfire pits.

Free public bikes are available for use. They also have a complimentary shuttle service that will take you anywhere within a 1 mile radius of the resort. A yoga class takes place in the morning while a wine hour is hosted in the evening. Next to the restaurant and bar is the lobby living room, complete with giant board games. Speaking of the restaurant, SaltRock boasts excellent New World cuisine and al fresco dining. To accommodate all the hikers, mountain bikers, and adventurers that come through this area, the resort sets up a morning station where guests can build their own trail mix to take with them!

The fitness center is fully loaded with free weights and both cardio and weight machines. And don’t even get me started on the award-winning spa and sauna here! I wish we had had time to indulge in one of the many treatments available. High Desert Salt Scrub or Sacred Stone Massage, anyone?

Amara is also pet friendly! Plus, they have a full concierge staff and a list of complimentary necessities should you forget anything. I had forgotten a razor on this trip, so I called the front desk and they brought one to the room within minutes!

Our Takeaway

It’s easy to find luxury resorts and hotels in the Sedona area. But the Amara Resort and Spa, just like all other Kimpton Hotels, goes above and beyond with their details and personal touches. We were incredibly happy with our experience staying a night in Amara — though we were wished we could’ve afforded a longer visit! The price would certainly scare away your typical budget traveler, as our room was just over $200. However, I’m a big believer in treating yourself, and this was the perfect way to do so after loud unwelcoming hostels and long road trip hours!

Disclosure : During this short and sweet introduction to Kimpton Hotels, I fell hard for the brand. I wrote this review simply because I wound up loving their style and enjoying my time there. I was in no way paid or compensated for either our night in the resort or this post. Though I wouldn’t turn down a chance to work with them in the future. *wink wink*

What’s your opinion on our room’s decor?
Yay or Nay?
Tell me in the comments if you’re digging the vibe as much as I was!

  1. Oh my! I’m happy I’m not the only one with the same impression and experience about Amara. It’s definitely one of the best resorts in Sedona.
