A Photo Journey Through Glacier Bay National Park

In by 3 Comments

Any cruise to Alaska wouldn’t be complete without sailing through the iconic jaw-dropping Glacier Bay National Park and surrounding fjords. Take in the views of jagged blue glaciers, icebergs, waterfalls, and wildlife as you sip hot chocolate from your balcony or an open deck.

Park Rangers board the cruise ships and give presentations while answering any questions you have. Some cruise ships even have their own Naturalist onboard (a job I’ve considered switching to every time I’m on an Alaskan contract), reporting on any whale, otter, or seal sightings and talking about the geology and the history of the park.

Whenever people find out I work seasonally on cruise ships, the biggest question I get is some version of “Where is your favorite cruise destination?” or “What is your favorite itinerary?” And out of all the exotic places I’ve been sent, I always find myself going on and on about Alaska — and this National Park is the main reason. I mean come on. Look at it!

  1. Visited there in Summer 2011, and saw that chunk of ice on the glacier just felt to the water and cause the wakes on the ocean. And so much like you, I am still going on about it till today. Thanks for the great photos.

Isn’t that such an awesome sight?! Glad you got to see the glacier calving! I’ll actually be adding more recent photos to this blog post by the end of the month, so come back then and check em out! :)

  2. Visited in Sept 2006 and finally returning? In October 2022. Great photos and info. Have enjoyed each of your Alaska reports. Good to get an “insiders” view.
